I have to admit, it’s kind of interesting to go through the old server logs and see where people are coming from. I get a lot of zombie hits from places like Europe, Russia, and China. I also get a large number of those same zombie hits from right here in the US…normally around Chicago.
The one that confuses me most though, comes from Kansas. An IP owned by a company known as “Peg-Tech”. Depending on the search, they either make security products or they are a massive spamming company. Not sure which one is hitting my site, nor why, but it is interesting.
Also, I have finally begun working on my test side, so I can experiment with gallery images as I begin work on a family site again.
I think that’s it for now.

Well, it’s been almost a over a full year since I made any changes to this site. Today, I decided to add several features and finally begin to update it. I have much to do and a long way to go but the process has begun. Whoever said the first step is the hardest really hit the nail on the head! Hopefully I will be back to sharing tech tips and some much needed humor soon enough.

IE 9 has been out for several days now, and to be honest, for Windows 7 users, it’s a great upgrade. Better memory management and refined threading security.
If you have not downloaded it yet, I would recommend you do so.

I know, it’s not really “tech” relasted, but as a huge SciFi fan, I’m really looking forward to season 2 of Legend of the Seeker. Here is a short preview of what is to come in season 2.
I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to November!

Sorry for the long delay in posts, but I’m hoping this post makes up for.

The above link is a very in nice visual flow-chart on how to set up a headless (no keyboard/monitor/mouse) file server based on Debian linux. They use a variation of Ubuntu in the instructions, but remember, Ubuntu is a variant of Debian.
The great thing about this type of file server is that it is accessible from various operating systems on your home network, without really having to worry about host operating system or drive format issues.
Hopefully the link above can assist you in your hosting needs.

Just a quick post to let you know that I have finally ordered a new laptop. Make and model are being kept under wraps for now, but expect to see a hopefully decent writeup on the unit when it arrives. It’s not the biggest/best unit available, but it sure will beat anything I currently own.
If there are any special tests you are interested in seeing me run, just let me know in the comments and I’ll be happy to give it a go.
